International Youth Day: PDP Mobilizes Youths to End Voter Apathy

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is actively mobilizing its youth organizations across Nigeria to combat voter apathy and enhance youth engagement in the country's democratic processes. This initiative is being undertaken in anticipation of International Youth Day, celebrated on Wednesday, August 12.

The party has instructed its state youth leaders to organize activities centered around the theme: 'How Youth Political Participation Will Curb Voter Apathy in Nigeria.' The primary objective is to deepen the involvement of young Nigerians in politics, recognizing voter apathy as a significant hurdle to effective democratic participation.

The theme underscores the urgent need to deepen youth engagement in Nigeria’s democratic processes, particularly at a time when voter apathy remains a significant challenge to effective democratic participation.

Amb. Ibrahim Bala-Aboki, the PDP National Youth Leader, emphasized the critical need to foster youth engagement. He stated that the program aims to provide a platform for discussing the vital role young Nigerians play in the nation's political landscape. This initiative aligns with the PDP's commitment to youth inclusion, as championed by its National Chairman, Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed Takushara.

Bala-Aboki highlighted that the party leadership consistently stresses the importance of empowering young Nigerians and PDP youth by giving them a meaningful stake in the party's affairs. PDP structures nationwide are expected to host youth-focused events as the party joins the global community in celebrating the potential of young people. A national-level celebration will take place in Abuja, drawing participation from party leaders, youth stakeholders, political figures, and opinion leaders. The PDP is also inviting the broader Nigerian public to engage in discussions aimed at reducing voter apathy and strengthening democracy through increased youth participation.
