Investigation Continues into Comedian Steimle Over Defamatory Statements

Prosecutors in Germany are continuing their investigation into comedian Uwe Steimle following allegedly defamatory statements he made at an event hosted by the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. The State Prosecutor's Office in Dessau-Roßlau confirmed the ongoing investigation in response to inquiries from the German Press Agency.

During the event in mid-July in Dessau-Roßlau, Steimle reportedly made disparaging remarks about current Chancellor Friedrich Merz and former Chancellor Angela Merkel, both members of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). The prosecutor's office initiated an investigation under Paragraph 126 of the German Criminal Code, which pertains to disturbing public peace by threatening criminal offenses.
