Investigation into murder of community leader José Fran Valerio in Los Alcarrizos

José Nathanael, the son of community leader and political activist José Fran Valerio, expressed bewilderment over his father's murder in Los Alcarrizos. Valerio was shot and killed on Friday afternoon. His son stated that, to his knowledge, his father had no disputes with anyone and had not received any threats.

According to Nathanael, his father had left their home and gone to a motorcycle taxi stand on Duarte Highway, which he had founded. While Valerio was seated at the stand, marked with the logo of the Dominicanos por el Cambio (DXC) party, two individuals on a motorcycle arrived and opened fire. Nathanael indicated that a shot to the back of his father's neck proved fatal.

Nathanael described a close relationship with his father, often accompanying him to political and community events. He reiterated that he was unaware of any problems his father might have been facing. After the shooting, Nathanael briefly had possession of his father's phone but could not access its contents to check for messages.

Police have taken the victim's phone as part of their investigation. As of the interview, Nathanael stated that police had not provided any clear information regarding the motive or the perpetrators. The incident occurred around 4:00 PM, with Nathanael receiving the news shortly after.
