Iran sets six conditions for U.S. to open Strait of Hormuz

Iran has outlined six conditions for the United States to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, signaling a firm stance in ongoing geopolitical tensions. Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, stated that the strait would remain closed unless the U.S. changes its behavior. The demands include an end to threats against Iran and its allies in Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen, and Iraq, as well as the permanent cessation of war against the Islamic Republic. Tehran also insists on the lifting of naval blockades, the withdrawal of naval and air forces, full compensation for damages inflicted upon Iran, the removal of sanctions, and the unblocking of frozen Iranian assets. Zolghadr emphasized that Iran would not compromise on these terms, whether in conflict or negotiation. The New York Times, however, casts doubt on the likelihood of the Trump administration accepting these demands. According to a temporary truce agreement reached in June, sanctions would only be lifted upon the finalization of a deal concerning Iran's nuclear program. Furthermore, the U.S. has stated that access to frozen assets is contingent on Iran's commitment to abandon its stockpile of highly enriched uranium.
