Iran tells US: Pressure tactics don't work, diplomacy needs respect

Iran's top diplomat has signaled that avenues for diplomacy remain open, despite ongoing tensions with the United States. "It is not impossible to bring diplomacy back on the right track," wrote Abbas Araghchi on the platform X, formerly Twitter. He stressed that the U.S. must understand that "pressure does not work."

Araghchi added that the U.S. should "build trust, speak respectfully, recognize our rights, and abide by its commitments." His remarks come as regional states have intensified diplomatic engagement. A Pakistani military delegation led by Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir visited Tehran recently, followed by Oman's Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi and Qatar's Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, who met with Araghchi.

The conflict between Iran and the U.S. appears to be in a stalemate, six months after the start of the Iran War. Reports from Iranian media indicate that discussions with Oman focused on the potential opening of the Strait of Hormuz. Iran is demanding concessions from the U.S. government, as outlined in a memorandum signed in June. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump continues to exert pressure on Iran through an "economic war."
