IRGC commander demands US 'correct its behavior' before Strait of Hormuz can be reopened

The Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the United States "corrects its behavior," declared Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr. In a message publicized by the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), Zolghadr outlined six specific conditions that Iran considers necessary for the U.S. to demonstrate corrected behavior.

These conditions include an end to all aggression against Iran, Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq, and Palestine; refraining from verbal threats against Iran; lifting the naval blockade and withdrawing all naval and air forces; compensating for damages from wars against Iran; lifting all sanctions; and releasing all frozen Iranian assets. Zolghadr asserted that the Supreme National Security Council would not back down, whether in war or negotiation.

Separately, the IRGC clarified that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is contingent upon the U.S. accepting Iran's conditions and is not linked to ongoing negotiations between Iran and Oman. Iran's Tasnim news agency cited the IRGC's spokesperson, Hossein Mohebbi, emphasizing that the reopening is subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran's specific mechanisms and conditions.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi indicated that Iran and Oman are nearing an agreement on a new shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz. However, he stressed that this accord would include conditions, notably compensation for what Tehran views as U.S. violations of the Islamabad memorandum of understanding.
