Israel demolishes 27 Palestinian structures in Jenin ahead of settlement inauguration

Israel demolished 27 Palestinian structures in the Jenin region of the northern West Bank on Wednesday, with demolition efforts continuing. Tareq Aghrabia, an official with the Jenin Governorate, confirmed the destruction of homes, shops, and agricultural facilities. This action follows several days of Israeli bulldozers dismantling around thirty more structures.

The demolitions come less than 24 hours before Israel is set to inaugurate the settlement of Ganim, located just over two kilometers east of Jenin city. Israel is also rebuilding the settlement of Kadim nearby. Ganim and Kadim were among four settlements dismantled by Israel in 2005 as part of a plan by then-Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.

Today 27 structures were demolished and the occupation (Israel) continues its demolition efforts.

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced the operation to demolish "26 Arab structures" in the Ganim and Kadim area to facilitate the "resumption of settlement." Israel asserts these structures are in Area C of the West Bank, which falls under Israeli administration according to the Oslo Accords, making construction permits nearly impossible for Palestinians to obtain.

The Jenin Governorate, however, contends that these agreements were temporary and that most of the homes targeted are part of an extension of Jenin city, situated in Area A, which is under Palestinian administration. They argue that the planned settlements on occupied Palestinian territory violate international law.
