Israel Hits Lebanon After Claiming 'Blatant' Hezbollah Truce Breach

Israel's military stated it is striking targets in southern Lebanon, asserting it was "compelled to act" by the Iran-backed Hezbollah militia. The Israel Defense Forces announced on social media that "In response to a blatant violation of the ceasefire by Hezbollah, the IDF has begun conducting precise strikes in southern Lebanon."

Earlier, the IDF's Arabic language spokeswoman, Ella Waweya, had urged residents of Mansouri, near the border, to evacuate immediately due to imminent military action. "In light of Hezbollah's violations of the ceasefire agreement, the Israel Defense Forces are compelled to act," she stated. "For your safety, you must evacuate your homes immediately and move north."

In response to a blatant violation of the ceasefire by Hezbollah, the IDF has begun conducting precise strikes in southern Lebanon.

These events follow the latest round of talks between Israel and Lebanon's government, which began at the U.S. Embassy in Rome. Hezbollah, not participating in these negotiations, had previously criticized Lebanese officials for their involvement. The talks aim to relocate Hezbollah from southern areas and replace its presence with Lebanese troops, facilitating Israel's withdrawal from its self-declared "buffer zone" along the de facto border.

Lebanon's state-run National News Agency reported one fatality and 12 injuries in the southern town of Tebnine, located in the Bint Jbeil district, citing the Health Ministry's Public Health Emergency Operations Center. Separately, the agency reported that "around 15 civilian families" had departed Mansouri following the IDF's warning. Both towns are in southern Lebanon, a region experiencing recurrent conflict since March, with Israeli troops stationed in Lebanese territory to maintain what Israel terms a "buffer zone" against Hezbollah. The Shiite militia is designated a terror group by Israel, Germany, and the U.S., among others.
