Israeli organized crime boss shot dead; three suspects arrested

Yanis Yushvaev, a 40-year-old figure described as one of Israel's most notorious organized crime leaders, was fatally shot in broad daylight at a gas station in Caesarea. Israeli media identified him as the head of the so-called "Caucasian mafia" in the country.

Reports indicate that Yushvaev was followed after leaving a store and was shot from behind at close range. The assailant fled the scene immediately after the attack. The Israeli police announced the arrest of three individuals suspected of involvement in the assassination, apprehended in Hadera by officers from the Yamam counter-terrorism unit following an investigation based on intelligence.

The three suspects were transported to the Coastal District Police headquarters in Haifa for interrogation. "The Israeli police will continue to act firmly to investigate the incident, identify all those involved, and bring them to justice," authorities stated. Yushvaev had a history of arrests and was suspected of involvement in violent crimes, though he had not been convicted of serious charges. His name had previously surfaced in investigations concerning shootings, arson, and threats.

Authorities considered Yushvaev a significant figure in Israel's organized crime landscape, and he had survived a previous shootout. Initial information suggests the assassination might stem from a conflict between criminal factions. Emergency medical services found Yushvaev without a pulse or breathing, with severe injuries. Despite resuscitation attempts, he was pronounced dead after being transported to a nearby hospital.
