Istanbul Roads Closed for Triathlon Championship; Alternative Routes Provided

Roads in Istanbul's Beykoz and Üsküdar districts are closed today, August 16, to accommodate a triathlon championship. The closures began at 4:45 a.m. and will remain in effect until the event concludes, impacting several key routes.

Specifically, all roads leading to the coastal direction of Atatürk Caddesi, along with Cuma Yolu Caddesi and Körfez Caddesi, are shut for traffic. Alternative routes for drivers include Küçüksu and Göksu caddeleri, as well as Mehmet Ali Birand and Atatürk caddeleri heading towards Kavacık. The Istanbul Police Department has implemented these measures to ensure the safety and smooth execution of the sporting event.

Further disruptions are occurring on the TEM Highway. The southern direction of the TEM, including the Maslak-Sarıyer side road exits towards Ankara, is closed. Access to the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge from the southern TEM via Maslak side road is also affected. Additionally, traffic flow from Levent and Etiler-Baltalimanı to the southern TEM, and from the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge towards Ankara, is rerouted. Traffic heading south on the TEM from the Anadolu side exits, as well as traffic from Yeni Riva Yolu and Kavacık towards Atatürk Caddesi, is also blocked.

Alternative routes for those affected by the TEM closures include Büyükdere Caddesi, the North Marmara Highway direction, D-100 south towards the July 15 Martyrs Bridge, and the Eurasia Tunnel towards Ankara. Traffic from Yeni Riva Yolu and Kavacık heading towards the TEM southern Ankara direction via the bridge is also an option. In Sarıyer and Beşiktaş, sections of Büyükdere Caddesi towards Sarıyer and Zincirlikuyu-Levent are closed, with traffic directed to Uğur Mumcu Caddesi.
