Itaipú boosts electricity supply to Paraguay's ANDE by 19.4% in first seven months of 2026

Itaipú Binacional significantly boosted its electricity supply to Paraguay's national power company, ANDE, during the first seven months of 2026. The binational entity delivered 16,876 GWh, marking a substantial 19.4% increase compared to the 14,125 GWh supplied in the same period of 2025.

This surge in energy provision is driven by a heightened demand within Paraguay's national electrical system. In July 2026 alone, Itaipú generated a total of 6,390 GWh, with 2,273 GWh specifically allocated to meet ANDE's demand. This represents an increase from July 2025, when ANDE received 2,015 GWh.

Globally, Itaipú generated 44,349 GWh between January and July 2026. This cumulative volume is sufficient to power all of Paraguay for approximately 18 months. The plant's operational efficiency also surpassed expectations, with generator unit availability at 96.41% by the end of July 2026, exceeding the company's target of 94% by 2.41 percentage points.

Itaipú attributes these achievements to operational and maintenance efficiency, the technical expertise of its employees, and coordinated efforts between Paraguay's and Brazil's electrical systems. The plant continues to assert its position as the world's leading generator of clean, renewable energy, with a historical production exceeding 3,169,028 GWh since its operations began in 1984.
