Itaka to Launch Direct Flights to the Azores for a Cooler Ocean Getaway

A Polish tour operator is pitching the Azores as a “Coolcation in the middle of the ocean,” with direct charter flights planned from Warsaw to the volcanic Atlantic archipelago in summer 2027.

Itaka will fly customers to Terceira with Czech charter airline Smartwings. The first flight is scheduled for June 15, 2027, and the last for Sept. 28. The company will offer stays in five four- and five-star hotels, including properties near the ocean and Angra do Heroísmo, as well as the Azores Book Hotel, housed in an 18th-century building with a library of about 5,000 books.

Terceira is known for its lush vegetation, volcanic craters and flowering hydrangeas. Itaka highlights the natural lava pools at Biscoitos, the Serra do Cume viewpoints and Algar do Carvão, located inside a former volcano. The island’s historic capital, Angra do Heroísmo, is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The operator will also offer tours across Terceira, Faial, São Jorge and Pico. One program includes whale- and dolphin-watching, a visit to Ilhéus das Cabras, swimming in the Biscoitos lava pools and cooking Azorean dishes with a local family. Travelers can also explore independently through a fly-and-drive package.
