Ixhuatlán del Sureste Mayor Vows Defense Amidst Impeachment Request Over Reporter's Murder

The mayor of Ixhuatlán del Sureste, Raúl González Martínez, has announced his intention to defend himself against accusations linking him to the illegal detention and murder of journalist Roxana Berenice Guzmán Ramírez. Facing a formal impeachment process, González Martínez stated his commitment to respecting legal procedures and presenting his defense within the established timeframe.

In a message shared on the official social media channels of the Municipal Government, the mayor, who belongs to the Movimiento Ciudadano party, expressed his trust in the judicial system. "As I have always done, I will act with respect for institutions and fully exercise my right to defense through legal channels, providing the relevant arguments and evidence within the established periods," he stated.

González Martínez confirmed he was notified of the impeachment proceedings on July 21 and has a period to submit his arguments. He emphasized his belief that the process will adhere strictly to the law, upholding due process and the presumption of innocence. He also reassured the citizens of Ixhuatlán del Sureste that municipal services and the work of the local government continue without interruption.

"To the citizens, I ask that we allow the relevant authorities to do their work and that we wait for this procedure to follow its course according to the law, avoiding premature judgments," he urged. He affirmed that his responsibilities as mayor remain unchanged since he took office. Two mayors from the Movimiento Ciudadano party are currently facing potential impeachment proceedings following accusations from the Veracruz State Attorney General's Office.
