İzmir Police Seize 7 Handguns, 4 Shotguns; 3 Detained

In a significant operation targeting illegal firearms, İzmir police have successfully confiscated a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition. Acting on intelligence, officers from the Bornova District Police Department's Crime Prevention and Investigation Bureau conducted searches at the residences of H.Y. and Ş.Y. late Thursday evening. The meticulous search yielded a total of seven unlicensed handguns and four shotguns, disrupting the flow of illegal weaponry within the city.

The discovery was not limited to firearms; a large quantity of ammunition was also seized. One home yielded 81 rounds of 9mm and 7.65mm caliber ammunition, while the second residence contained an even larger cache of 123 rounds of the same calibers. This seizure highlights the serious nature of the illegal arms trade and the potential danger posed by such quantities of ammunition.

As a result of these findings, three individuals – H.Y., Ş.Y., and R.Y.I. – were taken into custody. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities determined to uncover the full extent of this illegal network and bring all responsible parties to justice.
