Jakarta MRT Thamrin-Monas Line Nears Completion, Set to Open by Late 2027

Jakarta's Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system is inching closer to expanding its network with the Thamrin-Monas line, part of Phase 2A. PT MRT Jakarta announced that construction on contract package CP201, encompassing the Thamrin and Monas stations, has reached an impressive 92 to 93 percent completion.

Officials are targeting the end of 2027 for the commercial operation of both stations. Weni Maulina, Construction Director of PT MRT Jakarta, confirmed the project is progressing as scheduled. "Alhamdulillah, for Monas Station under package CP201, progress has reached 92 percent and is moving toward 93 percent," she stated after inspecting the site on Tuesday, July 22, 2026.

The construction faced significant hurdles, particularly the soft soil conditions along the route connecting Bundaran HI to Monas. However, engineering teams successfully navigated these technical difficulties, ensuring the project remains on track. The current focus is on finalizing station structures, including mechanical, electrical, and architectural elements, before moving into the testing and operational readiness phase.

Upon completion, the Thamrin and Monas stations will add two crucial stops to the MRT network, extending the Phase 2A development from Bundaran HI to Kota. This expansion is anticipated to enhance public transportation ridership and contribute to alleviating traffic congestion in the Indonesian capital.
