Jakarta Police Deploy 18,504 Officers for Planned Protests

Central Jakarta Metro Police have mobilized a significant force of 18,504 personnel to provide security for demonstrations scheduled across Jakarta, including at the House of Representatives (DPR) building. The extensive deployment aims to ensure that the expression of public opinion proceeds in a safe, orderly, and conducive manner.

We are present to provide a sense of security and comfort to all the people who are expressing their aspirations.

Security operations commenced early Thursday morning, involving key officials and commanding officers. Personnel are stationed in various zones around the DPR complex, as well as in the Bundaran HI and Dukuh Atas areas, to anticipate crowd movements and manage potential traffic disruptions. Police emphasized their presence is to provide a sense of security and comfort to citizens exercising their right to protest.

Members on duty are not carrying firearms or sharp weapons. We prioritize a humanistic approach, communication, and persuasion in serving the community.

In line with a commitment to a humanistic approach, all deployed officers will be unarmed, carrying neither firearms nor sharp weapons. The focus will be on employing humanistic, communicative, and persuasive methods in serving the public and managing the demonstrations. Police assured that space would be provided for citizens to voice their aspirations within legal boundaries.

We invite all involved elements to jointly maintain Central Jakarta safe and conducive.

Authorities urged protesters to refrain from engaging in anarchic actions or damaging public facilities, calling for cooperation to maintain peace and order in Central Jakarta. Police also prepared for situational traffic management and diversions if necessary, advising the public to be aware of the situation and follow officers' directions. The demonstrations are part of 62 public expression events scheduled across the Polda Metro Jaya region today.
