Jakarta Police: School Foundation's Firearm Owner Died in 2020

Police in Jakarta have identified the owner of a single firearm discovered at a private school foundation in South Jakarta as a deceased individual. The weapon, a Franchi SPAS-15 shotgun, was registered to a person identified as DS, who passed away in 2020.

Authorities are now investigating how the firearm ended up at the school premises in Pondok Pinang, Kebayoran Lama. The Kabid Humas Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Budi Hermanto, stated that the weapon has been secured by investigators. He explained that regulations require families to report a firearm's owner's death to the police and surrender the weapon, which can then be transferred to family or another owner.

From the investigation by the Directorate of Intelligence and Security Sub-Directorate of Weapons and Explosives Supervision, it was revealed that the individual DS had passed away in 2020, so this weapon was secured for further investigation.

This discovery comes after a large cache of weapons was found at the school foundation, including 995 airsoft guns, four air rifles, and the single registered firearm. Several airsoft guns were also found separately. The investigation is ongoing to understand the circumstances surrounding the weapon's presence at the school, especially since the registered owner is no longer alive.
