Jakarta Police to Re-summon Alphard Driver, Security Guard After Intimidation Allegations Surface

Jakarta police plan to summon the security guard and the driver of a Toyota Alphard involved in a traffic altercation after the luxury vehicle allegedly ran a red light. The move comes after public outcry over claims that the security guard was coerced into apologizing during a mediation session.

The case gained significant public attention after a voice recording, allegedly from the security guard, circulated on social media. In the recording, the guard claimed he was blamed during the mediation despite the Alphard driver clearly violating traffic laws by running a red light at a pedestrian crossing on Jalan MH Thamrin. The guard also alleged the Alphard driver, who reportedly identified himself as a law enforcement official, threatened to have him fired.

AKBP Braiel Arnold Rondonuwu, Head of the Menteng Metro Police, stated that all parties involved would be questioned to thoroughly investigate the matter. This includes the security guard, the Alphard driver, two passengers in the vehicle, and the police officers on duty at the Thamrin police post during the mediation. "Since a mediation process took place, and then one party felt uncomfortable or displeased, we want to clarify what exactly happened and resolve the issue completely," Braiel said on Thursday (July 23, 2026).

The incident reportedly began around noon on Wednesday (July 22, 2026), when the Alphard ran a red light at the pelican crossing. The security guard, attempting to cross the road, reportedly hit the Alphard's window, sparking the dispute. Both parties then sought mediation at the Thamrin police post, where they initially agreed to a peaceful resolution.

However, following the release of the voice recording, accusations surfaced that the mediation was not conducted fairly. The security guard's account suggests he was pressured to apologize and even bow, after being blamed by the police for hitting the car's window. The police are now seeking to clarify these allegations and ensure a just resolution.
