Jakarta to seek alternative funding for urgent school repairs

The DKI Jakarta provincial government has committed to urgently repairing the SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09 elementary school, which has been in a state of disrepair for two years. Governor Pramono Anung stated that the school's condition, which he only recently became aware of, will be a top priority. Anung confirmed that a special meeting was held regarding the issue, with the Deputy Governor set to convene with the entire Education Office to address the situation. He emphasized that repairs will commence promptly, even though the necessary funds are not currently allocated in the 2026 regional budget (APBD). The administration plans to explore alternative financing, including corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds or other available sources, to expedite the reconstruction. The school's building, specifically parts of its roof structure, reportedly collapsed in November 2024. Technical assessments by the local Cipta Karya, Tata Ruang, dan Pertanahan agency classified the building's condition as severely damaged, rendering it unsafe for educational activities. Consequently, the school premises have been secured since November 27, 2024, to ensure the safety of students and staff. As a result of the closure, 270 students were relocated to the adjacent SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 11. To accommodate the displaced students, a two-shift learning system was implemented to maintain optimal educational services. While the provincial government had initially planned to allocate funds for repairing 22 damaged schools this year, budget adjustments meant that only seven schools received repairs, leaving SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09 awaiting attention until now.
