Jalan Diponegoro Closed; Governor Says No Protests Due to Alternative Routes

Jalan Diponegoro in Bandung has been temporarily closed to traffic until September 7 as part of ongoing renovations to the Gedung Sate and Gasibu areas. The closure is intended to enhance the city's aesthetics and public safety, with a broader initiative to move overhead telecommunication cables underground across 85 streets by December 2026.

Governor of West Java, Dedi Mulyadi, addressed concerns about the closure, asserting that public protest has subsided due to the implementation of alternative routes. He noted that initial objections arose before alternative paths were established, but the current detour around Gasibu is now considered convenient for motorists.

The governor confirmed he has personally traversed the alternative route multiple times and found it satisfactory. Traffic engineering measures are in place to ensure smooth vehicle flow. Vehicles heading east on Jalan Diponegoro can use Jalan Sentot Alibasyah, Jalan Surapati, and then Jalan Majapahit. Traffic from the west can use the opposite lane to reach eastern destinations.

Workers are actively improving the area, including the former library site and pedestrian walkways. Despite the ongoing work, traffic around Gasibu remained light during midday observations, with several residents seen exercising in the vicinity.
