The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a critical warning to prospective candidates for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE). Candidates are strongly advised to meticulously verify their personal information against their National Identification Number (NIN) records before commencing the registration process.

In a recent edition of its "JAMB Explained" series, the Board stressed that any discrepancies in personal details must be rectified prior to creating a JAMB profile. JAMB clarified that the details used for profile creation are directly pulled from a candidate's NIN record held by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). "JAMB does not create or edit your details. They come directly from your NIN record with NIMC," the Board stated.

Furthermore, JAMB cautioned candidates against assuming that obtaining an affidavit would automatically rectify errors in their names or dates of birth on its platform. "Getting an affidavit won’t automatically make JAMB to update your record," the Board emphasized. Candidates are urged to ensure the accuracy of their full name, date of birth, and other personal information linked to their NIN.

For those who discover mistakes, the correct procedure involves resolving these errors through the appropriate NIMC channels. JAMB also offers a "Correction of Data" service on its official portal for issues like names, dates of birth, and gender, subject to prescribed procedures and fees. Candidates are required to use their NIN to generate a profile code before proceeding with UTME or DE registration, making early verification essential to avoid complications.
