Jamkrindo Builds Economic Independence for People with Disabilities

Skills training alone does not guarantee economic independence. For people with disabilities, access to markets can determine whether their work develops into a sustainable source of income.

That was the focus of Harmoni Karya Inklusif, a program organized by PT Jaminan Kredit Indonesia, or Jamkrindo, at Taman Cimanuk Adiarsa in Karawang Regency from Aug. 21 to 23, 2026. The program included batik and sewing workshops, followed by an exhibition and competition showcasing participants’ work.

We want to ensure that every individual has the opportunity to develop and create value. Through Harmoni Karya Inklusif, we want to encourage people with disabilities to become more confident in developing their potential, while opening opportunities for their work to have economic value.

Twenty people with disabilities joined the batik training, which included lessons on developing motifs distinctive to Karawang. The program then brought batik and sewing participants together through business matching. Fabric produced during the workshops could be developed into ready-to-wear clothing, bags, accessories and other creative products.

Jamkrindo Corporate Secretary Akhmad Albaasithu said empowerment should provide people with opportunities to grow, create and gain economic prospects. “We want to ensure that every individual has the opportunity to develop and create value,” he said in a press release. The program, he added, sought to build participants’ confidence while giving their work economic value.

The exhibition included a fashion show, displays of participants’ work, judging, artistic performances and awards. It also introduced the products to the public, government, businesses, communities and potential marketing partners. Jamkrindo said the process should continue beyond the workshops through collaboration, product development and market access.

We want empowerment programs not to stop when the training ends. There must be a follow-up process involving collaboration, product development and introducing the work to the market.
