Jokowi to Attend Trial Over Diploma Defamation Case

President Joko Widodo intends to appear in court to personally present authentic documents related to his academic diplomas in an ongoing defamation case. His lawyer, Yakup Hasibuan, confirmed that the president will bring his elementary, junior high, and high school diplomas, along with his university degree, to the trial.

Hasibuan explained that Jokowi's presence is a sign of respect for the Indonesian legal process. The president hopes the case will proceed swiftly to a proof stage, ensuring legal certainty. "Until today, Mr. Jokowi is firm that he will attend," Hasibuan stated.

The lawyer added that Jokowi's attendance timing will depend on the court's schedule. He also noted that the president respects the ongoing judicial review process initiated by one of the defendants, Roy Suryo. Suryo had previously filed a pretrial motion concerning his arrest and detention, which was partially granted, though it did not affect the main case.

Police have completed their investigation into Suryo and another defendant, Tifauzia Tyassuma, also known as dr Tifa. The case has been handed over to the South Jakarta Prosecutor's Office, awaiting trial proceedings. The core of the legal dispute revolves around the authenticity of Jokowi's diplomas.
