Jorge Martín wins British MotoGP sprint, extends championship lead

Jorge Martín has solidified his championship lead by clinching his third sprint race victory of the season at the British MotoGP Grand Prix held at Silverstone. The Spanish rider on the Aprilia RS-GP dominated the sprint race, extending his advantage in the overall standings.

Joining Martín on the sprint podium were fellow Aprilia riders Ai Ogura and Marco Bezzecchi. Bezzecchi, still recovering from a collarbone fracture sustained in Germany, was visibly emotional after the demanding race. Martín now holds a 17-point lead over Ogura and a 27-point lead over Bezzecchi, who has reclaimed third place from Marc Márquez.

Reigning world champion Marc Márquez experienced a difficult race aboard his Ducati Desmosedici GP26. He struggled significantly with the performance of his soft rear tire, gradually losing positions to finish in a disappointing ninth place. The race also saw early drama for other riders, including Cal Crutchlow, who crashed out, and Raúl Fernández, who dropped from second to sixth after a difficult start.

Martín executed a perfect start, leading the initial laps. He was closely followed by Ogura and Fabio di Giannantonio, with Márquez initially in fourth. Despite attempts by Martín to break away, his rivals largely kept pace in the early stages. However, Márquez's struggles became more apparent as Bezzecchi overtook him, and Alex Márquez also passed his brother, further complicating Marc Márquez's race.
