Josué Vergara scores in Panama’s latest European football success

Josué “Yaya” Vergara continued his strong start in European football by scoring in KAA Gent’s 2-1 win over Club Brugge in Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League.

The Panamanian striker broke the deadlock in the 38th minute, beating the Club Brugge defense with a precise finish. The goal marked his third official strike since joining Gent, with two goals in the Belgian league and one in the UEFA Conference League.

Flashscore gave Vergara a 7.7 rating for his performance. He attempted four shots, all from inside the area, put two on target and recorded an expected-goals figure of 0.73. He also registered four touches in the opposition box, won three fouls and tested the goalkeeper with a header.

Vergara completed 11 of 14 passes, an accuracy rate of 79 percent. He reached 100 percent accuracy on passes into the penalty area and in the final third, while completing both of his back-to-goal lay-offs. He finished the match with 30 touches.

His work extended beyond attack. Vergara won four of seven individual duels, achieved a 75 percent success rate in ground duels, made four clearances in his own half and recovered the ball once. The performance added to his growing importance in Gent’s attack.
