Panamá Oeste beats Metro in extra innings to reach U23 national championship final

Panamá Oeste needed 11 innings to eliminate Panamá Metro and secure a place in the final of Panama's U23 National Baseball Championship.

With the score tied 3-3 in the bottom of the 11th, Miguel Domínguez singled with runners on second and third and one out. His hit brought Arod McKenzie home for the winning run at Rod Carew Stadium.

The semifinal game began on Saturday, August 29, but rain interrupted play. The teams completed it on Sunday, August 30. Panamá Oeste won the series 2-0.

Edgar Samaniego allowed four hits and one run over six innings, striking out two and walking one, to earn the win. Yeremy Sánchez went 3-for-4 for Panamá Oeste, while Osvaldo Cuevas went 2-for-4 with a run and Mauricio Pierre went 2-for-6 with two RBIs. Omar Ortega drove in two runs for Panamá Metro.

Panamá Oeste will face Chiriquí Occidente in a final played over up to five games, with the first two scheduled for September 1 and 2 at Kenny Serracín Stadium. The series will then move to Mariano Rivera Stadium for games on September 4 and 5, if needed, followed by a possible fifth game on September 7. Each game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
