Journalist attacked in Colima, Mexico, while with his family

Journalist Pablo Ávila Martínez from Tecomán, Colima, reported being physically assaulted on Friday morning by individuals who told him the attack was a consequence of his reporting. The incident occurred as Ávila was leaving his home with his family. He stated on social media that he sustained significant injuries but that he and his family are safe. "Fortunately and thanks to God, I am well and my family too; the injuries are a bit severe, but my life goes on," he wrote. Ávila expressed that he does not know who attacked him or who ordered the assault. He emphasized that his work solely involves informing the public on matters of public interest to contribute to society. He lamented that insecurity and violence are now affecting those who practice journalism. The attack had not only a physical impact on Ávila but also caused emotional and psychological distress to his family. He expressed gratitude for the solidarity and support he has received following the attack and announced he would be taking a temporary pause from his journalistic work to recover.
