Journalists in Serbia Receive New Death Threats; Repeat Offender Unpunished

Journalists Marko Vidojkovic and Nenad Kulacin, known for their podcast "Good, Bad, Evil," are facing renewed death threats. The latest threats appeared on Instagram under a post featuring a clip with guest Naim Leo Besiri, who has also been targeted with abusive messages. A user identified as 'lesicslobodan' posted violent and hateful comments, including explicit calls for the journalists' deaths and profanity directed at their families. The Independent Journalists Association of Serbia (NUNS) reported the incident, noting that this user has sent approximately ten threats this year alone. The SOS hotline for threats against journalists has forwarded the case to the Prosecutor's Office for High-Tech Crime. Veran Matic, a member of the Permanent Working Group for the Safety of Journalists, expressed concern over the lack of prosecution for repeat offenders, stating that out of 111 cases opened by the prosecutor's office in the past 18 months, only one perpetrator has been identified and sanctioned. Despite the initial report, the user 'lesicslobodan' issued further threats against Vidojkovic and Kulacin, escalating the hateful rhetoric. NUNS is urging the Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Interior to address these persistent threats more effectively, emphasizing that the identities of such users are often easily discoverable.
