Three hunters caught poaching with a killed roe deer in an area affected by African swine fever

Three individuals were caught poaching a roe deer in the Vladimirci hunting ground during the night of July 25-26. Authorities found them with hunting weapons, equipment, and the illegally killed animal, which was estimated to be of high trophy value, potentially earning a bronze medal upon assessment.

This case carries significant weight because the poaching occurred within an area currently under quarantine due to African swine fever. Strict biosafety and control measures are enforced in these zones to prevent the further spread of the highly contagious disease.

Unauthorized movement in these zones, and non-compliance with prescribed restrictions, represents a serious threat to the implementation of measures to suppress African swine fever.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management stated that unauthorized movement and disregard for prescribed restrictions in such areas seriously jeopardize efforts to combat African swine fever. The suspects are reportedly members of hunting associations from Belgrade and the Obrenovac municipality.

Legal proceedings will be initiated against the individuals. The ministry emphasized that respecting all imposed measures is a duty for everyone, especially during the African swine fever outbreak. The fight against the disease depends not only on veterinary services but also on the responsible behavior of all participants, including hunting ground users and hunters.
