Judge Appointed to North Iceland District Court

Margrét Helga Kristínar Stefánsdóttir has been appointed as a judge for the District Court of North Iceland, with her first assignment beginning October 1. Stefánsdóttir holds a master's degree in law from the University of Iceland, obtained in 2010, and a master's degree from the same university in February 2013. She qualified as a district court lawyer in the same year.

Following her law degree, Stefánsdóttir worked at a law firm until 2016. She then served as an assistant judge at the District Court of Reykjanes for approximately two years. Subsequently, she worked as an assistant judge at the Court of Appeal for about two years and later as an assistant judge at the Supreme Court.

Stefánsdóttir has twice served as an acting district court judge. In 2021, she served at the District Court of the Westfjords for two and a half months, also acting as court director. In 2025, she served at the District Court of Reykjanes for three and a half months.

From 2021 to 2023, Stefánsdóttir was a project manager for digital transformation at the Courts Administration. She also worked as an independent lawyer and project manager at a law firm from 2023 to 2025. In January 2026, she began working as a legal counsel for the Ombudsman of Althingi. Additionally, she has served as the secretary of the Appeals Committee on Public Procurement and as a member of the Media Committee, alongside part-time teaching at the Faculty of Law at the University of Iceland.
