Judicial Council archives case against ex-judge and prosecutor in family violence case involving Attorney General's son

Paraguay's Judicial Council (JEM) has archived a case against a former judge and a prosecutor. The two were investigated for alleged irregular actions in a domestic violence case involving the son of Attorney General Emiliano Rolón.

The JEM decided by majority vote to archive the preliminary investigation against former criminal judge Mirko Valinotti and prosecutor Fátima Villasboa. The case stemmed from their actions in a criminal proceeding concerning "Axel Emilio Rolón Ramírez s/ domestic violence," the son of Attorney General Emiliano Rolón.

Valinotti is no longer subject to the JEM's process because he was not confirmed by the Supreme Court of Justice as a guarantor judge. The council also archived the preliminary investigation against prosecutor Fátima Villasboa, of the Specialized Unit for the Fight Against Family Violence. This decision was made based on a proposal by councilor Enrique Berni and with the support of other members.

However, the Supreme Court Minister and second vice president of the JEM, César Antonio Garay Zuccolillo, had proposed initiating an ex officio proceeding against prosecutor Villasboa for alleged misconduct. His motion, which did not pass, was supported by the president of the body, Alicia Pucheta Vda. De Correa. The original criminal case is still ongoing after an Appeals Court overturned a previous dismissal.
