Jürgen Klopp appointed Germany's new national football coach until 2030

Jürgen Klopp has officially taken the reins as the 13th head coach of the German men's national football team, signing a contract that will keep him in the role until 2030. The announcement was made by the German Football Association (DFB) at a press conference, confirming Klopp as their top choice to succeed Julian Nagelsmann. This appointment marks a significant moment for German football, which has faced disappointment in recent major tournaments.

Klopp expressed his enthusiasm for the position, calling it a "very, very special day." He stated that the national team has a unique ability to unite Germans, making the role particularly meaningful to him. He also acknowledged his gratitude to Red Bull for their openness in facilitating this agreement. The DFB president, Bernd Neuendorf, echoed Klopp's sentiment, emphasizing that Klopp was their first choice and that securing his commitment was a complex process due to his prior obligations.

The German team's early exit from the recent World Cup is expected to result in a substantial financial deficit for the DFB, estimated at 9.4 million euros. This figure does not yet include the severance packages for the former coaching staff, which are reportedly around 6.8 million euros, nor any potential compensation for Klopp's arrival. Klopp's previous role was as a football department head at Red Bull, overseeing clubs globally, after departing Liverpool in 2024. Per Mertesacker will also join the DFB as executive director starting in 2027.
