Juventus frustrates Amorim’s Milan with a stoppage-time equalizer

Federico Gatti’s 91st-minute header denied Milan victory and rescued a 1-1 draw for Juventus in an Italian classic shaped by tactical caution and late drama.

The opening 45 minutes brought little beyond a battle for control. Juventus held more of the ball and took the territorial initiative, but Luka Modric’s command in Milan’s midfield repeatedly extinguished the danger. Milan, still searching for a settled identity after a major summer overhaul that included the club-record signing of Goncalo Ramos, offered little threat before the break.

The match opened up after the hour mark. With Kolo Muani and Ramos largely absent from the attacking action, Samuel Chukwueze slipped a precise pass to Alphadjo Cisse, who finished expertly in the 68th minute. The goal appeared to break a pattern of recent scoreless meetings between the two clubs.

Juventus responded by raising the tempo and pushing toward Milan’s penalty area. That pressure finally paid off in added time, when Gatti produced a powerful header to make it 1-1 and prevent Juventus from suffering defeat. The draw also ended the run of identical victories with which both teams had begun the championship.

The evening carried an emotional dimension beyond the result. The stadium paid tribute to Franco Baresi, the historic Milan captain who died on July 31 at 66. Juventus supporters joined the commemoration, honoring Baresi’s solidarity with their fans after the Heysel tragedy. Milan will next visit Lazio in Rome, while Juventus will face Sassuolo.
