Kaesang Pangarep to Run for Indonesian Parliament in 2029

Kaesang Pangarep, the chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), has declared his intention to compete for a seat in the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) in the 2029 General Election. He shared this plan with party cadres during a Regional Coordination Meeting (Rakorda) for the PSI in Surakarta City on Saturday night, July 25, 2026.

Today, I will not provide any directives or anything because I think everything has already been conveyed by the Chair of the DPD and DPW, and it should be done by all the cadres present tonight.

During the meeting, Pangarep focused on encouraging PSI cadres in Surakarta to strengthen their engagement within the community. He suggested active participation in social activities, from attending religious studies to offering condolences to bereaved families, emphasizing the importance of being present as part of the community. He also stressed the need for solidarity among cadres as they prepare for the upcoming election.

One example is being present in the community. Whether there's a religious study, we join; if someone passes away, we come as part of the community to express condolences to our neighbors or friends.

Pangarep specifically addressed cadres interested in running for the Surakarta City Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) in 2029. Observing a significant number of hands raised, he viewed this enthusiasm as a valuable asset for PSI to improve its vote acquisition in the region. However, he cautioned against internal competition among candidates.

With this kind of spirit, it looks good as well. If many are interested in running as candidates, then Solo will be the target as previously explained by the chairman; are 15 willing?

To prevent vote-splitting and internal friction, Pangarep advised future PSI candidates to strategically divide their political work areas. He noted that conflicts often arise when candidates target the same voter base, leading to internal disputes. Pangarep expressed his desire to avoid such situations within the PSI during the 2029 General Election, urging candidates to proactively manage their electoral territories.

One of those is that the candidates in the future must divide the territory. Why? So there won't be friction, so they won't eat into each other's votes.
