PSI Chairman Kaesang Pangarep Aims for Parliament in 2029 Election

Kaesang Pangarep, the chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), has declared his intention to compete for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2029 general election. He revealed this plan to party cadres during a regional coordination meeting in Surakarta on Saturday, July 25, 2026.

Pangarep encouraged PSI members to strengthen their presence within the community, suggesting participation in social events like religious gatherings and attending funerals. "One example is being present in the community. Whether there's a religious gathering, join it; if someone passes away, we go as neighbors to offer condolences," he stated.

He also emphasized the importance of internal cohesion for the party's preparations for the 2029 elections. Pangarep cautioned prospective legislative candidates against internal rivalries that could harm the party. He asked those intending to run for the Surakarta City DPRD to raise their hands, noting the significant enthusiasm as a positive sign for increasing PSI's vote share.

To prevent internal conflicts and vote-splitting, Pangarep advised candidates to divide their political territories. He explained that competition often arises when candidates share the same voter base, leading to internal disputes. "I know usually candidate number one and number two clash because their voter base is the same, but neither wants to yield. In the end, they fight internally. I don't want things like that to happen in the 2029 election," he said.

Pangarep also requested that members not running for office continue to support the party's efforts and help PSI win in 2029, urging them to remain solid.
