Kamchybek Tashiev Appeals Verdict in "Letter of 75" Case

Kamchybek Tashiev, the former head of Kyrgyzstan's State Committee for National Security (SCNS), is challenging a court verdict that found him guilty in the "Letter of 75" case. His lawyer, Ikramidin Aitkulov, confirmed that an appeal has been filed with the Bishkek City Court.

In early July, the Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek convicted Tashiev, sentencing him to four years in prison with confiscation of property. However, the court granted him a suspended sentence, placing him under probation supervision for three years instead of immediate incarceration.

The "Letter of 75" case stems from an appeal submitted by a group of former senior officials, lawmakers, and public figures. This group urged President Sadyr Japarov to call for early presidential elections in the country. Several other signatories of the letter, including former Prosecutor General Kurmankul Zulushev and former Speaker of the Zhogorku Kenesh Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, were also convicted in the same proceedings.

The appeal filed with the Bishkek City Court is expected to undergo consideration over approximately two months. The outcome of this appeal will determine the final legal standing of Tashiev and the other convicted individuals in relation to the "Letter of 75" case.
