Karakol Man Sentenced to Two Years for Unpaid Child Support

A local resident in Karakol has been handed a two-year prison sentence, suspended for one year, for failing to pay child support for an extended period. The Karakol City Court found the man guilty of long-term evasion of his financial obligations towards his child.

According to the prosecutor's office, the man had accumulated a debt of 309,000 Kyrgyz som in child support payments. The criminal case was initiated under Article 178 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, which addresses parental evasion of child support payments when the arrears exceed 24 months.

During 2025 and 2026, the Karakol City Court reviewed four criminal cases related to this offense involving four individuals. Two of these cases resulted in convictions, with sentences including fines and imprisonment. In the remaining cases, the defendants fully settled their outstanding child support debts before a verdict was reached.

Collectively, the court managed to recover a total of 601,631 som through these proceedings, ensuring that financial support was provided to the children involved. The court's actions aim to enforce parental responsibility and secure the financial well-being of minors.
