Kano declares readiness for state police

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has announced the state's preparedness for the establishment of a state police force, provided the necessary constitutional framework is enacted. Yusuf emphasized that Kano possesses the institutional capacity, manpower, and political will required to successfully operate such a security outfit.

Kano State is fully prepared for the establishment of state police. We have the institutional capacity, human resources and political will to establish and sustain an effective state police system once the necessary constitutional and legal frameworks are put in place.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Inter-Agencies Task Force on Drug Abuse and Trafficking, Governor Yusuf stated that state police would serve as a complement to, rather than a replacement for, the Nigeria Police Force. He envisions both policing structures working in partnership to enhance security, improve intelligence gathering, and facilitate rapid responses to threats. "Kano State is fully prepared for the establishment of state police. We have the institutional capacity, human resources and political will to establish and sustain an effective state police system once the necessary constitutional and legal frameworks are put in place," the governor said.

Yusuf further elaborated that the creation of state police would bolster community policing efforts and increase public trust in law enforcement. He stressed that state police should not be viewed as competitors to the Nigeria Police Force but as collaborators in safeguarding lives and property. The governor reaffirmed his administration's dedication to supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening Nigeria's security architecture.
