Nasarawa sacks six commissioners in cabinet reshuffle

The Nasarawa State Government has initiated a minor cabinet reshuffle, removing six commissioners in an effort to re-energize the administration for its remaining mandates. The decision was announced by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Labaran Shuaibu Magaji, SAN, following a State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.

Magaji explained that the adjustments are intended to strengthen the government's structure and introduce new dynamism as the administration approaches the end of its tenure. The ministries affected by this reshuffle include Works, Women Affairs, Information, Lands, Science and Technology, and Security and Other Sundry Matters. He emphasized that the changes do not signify poor performance by the outgoing commissioners, whose contributions were acknowledged and appreciated.

In addition to the cabinet changes, the council meeting addressed strategies for enhancing the state's internally generated revenue (IGR). A key focus was leveraging economic opportunities presented by lithium processing companies operating within Nasarawa. The SSG recalled the recent national attention garnered by the state following the commissioning of a major lithium processing plant, attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima. Discussions are ongoing to maximize the benefits derived from this emerging industry, with further details to be released later.
