Kano Governor Swears In New Deputy Governor

Kano State has a new Deputy Governor, Murtala Sule Garo, who was sworn into office on Tuesday. The ceremony, initially planned for the Coronation Hall, was moved to the Africa House within the Government House premises. Garo has pledged his commitment to diligently supporting Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's administration and advancing its developmental agenda. He assured the residents of Kano that he would focus on promoting good governance, unity, and continuity in government policies.

This appointment comes after the resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Aminu Gwarzo, on March 27, 2026. Gwarzo's departure was reportedly due to political tensions, allegations of misconduct, and impeachment proceedings initiated by the state assembly. He subsequently joined and then resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in May 2026, marking a period of significant political flux in the state.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by prominent government officials and political stakeholders, including former governors Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Ibrahim Shekarau, underscoring the political significance of this transition. The new deputy governor's commitment to good governance and continuity signals an effort to stabilize the administration and move forward with its policy objectives.
