Karachi court acquits alleged drug baroness Anmol 'Pinky' in 3 cases

An alleged drug baroness, Anmol, known as Pinky, has been acquitted by a Karachi sessions court in three narcotics cases. The acquittals were granted on Thursday, concerning cases registered at the Gizri police station in 2020, 2021, and 2022, where Pinky had been declared an absconder.

Her acquittal in these three cases hinges on the fact that the co-accused, whose statements formed the basis of the charges against her, have already been acquitted. Her lawyer argued that without the conviction of the co-accused, there is no basis for Pinky's conviction.

According to court documents, Pinky was implicated in a 2021 case by two individuals arrested for drug possession, who claimed she supplied them with narcotics. A recent charge sheet from the Counter-Terrorism Department indicates that Pinky has over a dozen other cases registered against her.

Anmol was arrested in May for drug and unlicensed weapon possession in cases filed at the Garden police station. Her court appearances have drawn attention, particularly after a video of her being escorted without handcuffs went viral. During her legal proceedings, Pinky has claimed she is facing pressure from the police to name politicians and other influential figures.
