Karachi water supply resumes after 22-hour power outage at Dhabeji station

Karachi's water supply is gradually returning to normal after a significant power outage at the Dhabeji pumping station disrupted services for nearly 22 hours. The breakdown, which began Sunday morning due to a cable fault, led to a substantial shortfall of approximately 48 million gallons of water across the city.

Water supply to the affected areas has resumed in phases.

Abdul Qadir Shaikh, spokesperson for the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC), confirmed that electricity was restored to the pumping station early Monday morning. The outage affected several key areas, including parts of North Nazimabad, Nazimabad, Gulberg Town, New Karachi, Landhi, Korangi, and Scheme 33.

The prolonged outage had resulted in a shortfall of nearly 48 million gallons of water in the city.

The Dhabeji pumping station is crucial for Karachi's water intake and relies heavily on uninterrupted power. Even short disruptions can cause immediate service interruptions. While KWSC initially attributed the Sunday outage to a cable fault, K-Electric (KE) clarified that the issue was internal and not related to their supply. Despite the clarification, KE stated a power utility team was assisting KWSC in resolving the fault. This incident follows a similar electricity outage earlier this month that affected the K-2 Pumping Station.

The fault in KDA Pumping Feeder 2, which supplies electricity to the Dhabeji Pumping Station, is internal in nature and is not related to K-Electric.
