Kyrgyzneftegaz Case: Tashiev Moved to House Arrest After Repaying Damages

The investigation into a corruption scheme at Kyrgyzneftegaz OJSC and Kyrgyz Petroleum Company CJSC is continuing, with a significant development in the case of former parliament member Shairbek Tashiev. Tashiev, who was arrested on April 1, has been released to house arrest after repaying the majority of the damages he allegedly caused.

The criminal case, opened under the article «Corruption» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, accuses officials of organizing a corrupt scheme for the illegal sale of fuel and lubricants. This scheme resulted in damages to the state exceeding 4.1 billion soms. The investigation was prompted by a Tax Service inquiry that uncovered large-scale thefts from 2021 to 2025 at the state-owned company.

Investigators identified three channels used to siphon profits to private entities, which they link to the inner circle of the former leadership of the State Committee for National Security. The case has already seen several arrests, with four defendants, including the former Chairman of the Board of Kyrgyzneftegaz OJSC and heads of associated private firms, taken into custody. Additionally, former National Bank head Melis Turgunbaev was previously detained in connection with the case, though his pre-trial detention was later changed to house arrest by the Bishkek City Court.
