Karalis Claims Sixth Greek Pole Vault Title with 5.80m Jump

Emmanouil Karalis secured his sixth consecutive Greek national pole vault championship title on Saturday, clearing 5.80 meters in Volos. The Olympic bronze medalist demonstrated his dominance in the event, though not without initial challenges.

Karalis began his competition directly at 5.66 meters but faltered on his first two attempts. Facing potential elimination, he successfully cleared the height on his final try, showcasing his resilience and quality. He then comfortably passed 5.80 meters to clinch the title, earning applause from the crowd at the Panthessaliko Stadium.

With the national championship secured, Karalis attempted to clear 6.00 meters, aiming to match his season's best outdoor performance. Despite three attempts, he could not surpass the mark, concluding his competition with 5.80 meters. The silver medal went to Giannis Rizos with a jump of 5.56 meters, while Giorgos Papastasiou took bronze at 5.12 meters.

Karalis's next major goal is the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham from August 10-16, where he will compete against Europe's top pole vaulters.
