Kasperi Kapanen Signs One-Year Contract Extension with Edmonton Oilers, Doubles Salary

Kasperi Kapanen, the soon-to-be 30-year-old Finnish forward, has secured a one-year contract extension with the Edmonton Oilers, a move that will see his annual salary double.

Under the new agreement, Kapanen's earnings will increase from $1.3 million to $2.6 million per season. He joined the Oilers in November 2024, acquired via waivers from the St. Louis Blues. Since his arrival in Edmonton, Kapanen has established himself as a valuable energy player in the team's bottom lines, demonstrating a particular knack for performing well during the crucial playoff stages.

His performance this past season saw him contribute 8 goals and 9 assists in 41 regular-season games. In the playoffs, he elevated his game further, scoring 4 goals and adding 2 assists in six games. Kapanen also has a history of delivering in high-stakes moments, having scored the game-winning goal for Finland's U20 team to secure the World Junior Championship title on home ice in 2016.

A second-generation NHL player, Kapanen has previously played for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Pittsburgh Penguins. During his time with the Oilers, he has also started a family, marrying Matleena Laakso and becoming a father.
