Kazakhstan Extradites Woman Convicted of Drug Trafficking 16 Years Ago

Kazakhstan has successfully extradited a woman from Kyrgyzstan to serve a 15.6-year prison sentence for large-scale drug trafficking. The extradition, facilitated by the Prosecutor General's Office of Kazakhstan, concludes a case dating back 16 years.

The woman was convicted in November 2010 by the Specialized Interdistrict Court for Criminal Cases in the Zhambyl region. She was found guilty of smuggling more than one kilogram of hashish across the Kazakh border in 2010 for financial reward. The court initially deferred the execution of her sentence until her child reached the age of 14.

However, while under probation supervision, the convicted individual absconded in 2017, evading the court's sentence. This led to her being placed on a wanted list. She was eventually detained in Bishkek in March 2026 and subsequently extradited to Kazakhstan upon the request of the Prosecutor General's Office.

The sentence includes the confiscation of her property. Her conviction was for the criminal act of illegally crossing the state border of Kazakhstan with narcotic substances for the purpose of sale, classified as an offense in particularly large quantities.

However, taking into account that she had a young child, the execution of the sentence was postponed until he reached the age of 14. While on probation, in 2017, the convicted person evaded the execution of the court sentence, in connection with which she was put on the wanted list. In March 2026, she was detained in Bishkek, from where, at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office of Kazakhstan, she was extradited to her homeland.
