Kazakhstan's New Kurultai Deputies Receive Official IDs and Badges

Deputies of Kazakhstan's newly established unicameral Kurultai have officially received their identification cards and badges, signifying the start of their legislative duties. The Central Election Commission (CEC) registered 145 deputies representing five political parties, following elections held on August 23.

CEC Chairman Nurlan Abdirov emphasized that the deputies' powers officially began upon registration. He highlighted the Kurultai as the supreme representative body exercising legislative power, elected through direct suffrage. Abdirov stressed that the mandate is a result of public trust, carrying significant responsibility toward the nation.

The Kurultai replaces Kazakhstan's previous bicameral Parliament, consisting of the Mazhilis and Senate, which ceased operations with the new Constitution's implementation on July 1. The unicameral body comprises 145 deputies serving five-year terms. Its functions include reviewing and adopting laws, overseeing government work, and approving key constitutional decisions.

Mandate distribution among the five parties is as follows: Adilet Party secured 110 seats, the Nationwide Social Democratic Party (OSDP) and the Ak Zhol People's Democratic Patriotic Party each received 10 seats, the Respublica Party gained 9 seats, and the Ak Zhol Democratic Party of Kazakhstan obtained 8 seats.
