Kedah PAS disappointed by Federal Court's gambling ban ruling

PAS Kedah voiced strong disappointment following the Federal Court's rejection of the Kedah state government's request for leave to appeal a ban on gambling licenses. The party's commissioner, Ahmad Yahaya, acknowledged the court's decision but stated it was disheartening for the people of Kedah.

Yahaya criticized certain parties for defending gambling, which he characterized as a crime, despite the state government's efforts to close gambling premises legally. He found it ironic that the state's move to prevent societal damage was met with legal challenges.

The Federal Court upheld the Court of Appeal's ruling, which found the Kedah government's directive to be outside its powers and inconsistent with the Federal Constitution. A three-judge panel dismissed the state's application and ordered it to pay RM50,000 in costs.

Despite the legal setback, PAS Kedah affirmed its commitment to upholding principles of promoting good and forbidding evil in state administration. The party pledged unwavering support for any further actions the state government might take.
