Keep the highway open! Association warns CNAIR over A10 landslide closure

The Pro Infrastructure Association has issued a strong warning to Romania's National Road Infrastructure Administration Company (CNAIR), demanding that a section of the A10 highway remain open following a landslide.

CNAIR is preparing to fully close the Unirea-Turda segment of the A10, which would force drivers onto the hazardous DN1 national road for a 19-kilometer detour. The association argues this is an unacceptable risk, citing the national road's dangerous curves and steep inclines.

Instead, the association suggests a temporary, safe diversion of traffic onto the opposite lane of the A10, a solution they claim is standard practice in "civilized countries." This would involve a short 2.5-kilometer diversion with speed restrictions and clear signage, supported by police patrols.

The association estimates that repairs to the collapsed section could take months or even years, involving complex procedures like expert assessments, detailed design, and public tenders. They criticized CNAIR and DRDP Cluj for their "irresponsibility" in opting for a complete closure.

"Are our Hungarian neighbors repairing their M1 highway for about 100 kilometers under traffic?!" the association questioned, drawing a comparison to practices in Hungary. They urged decision-makers to remember their duty to citizens and facilitate the temporary diversion, threatening to rename CNAIR the "National Company for Road Infrastructure Closure" if their demands are not met.
