KGM Pioneers 'Participatory Director System' in Automotive Industry

KG Mobility (KGM) is making history in the automotive industry by becoming the first company to implement a "participatory director system." This groundbreaking initiative allows the labor union, representing the voice of the workers, to participate as a member of the board of directors. This move directly reflects the company's commitment to integrating the on-the-ground perspectives of its employees into its core management decisions.

The concept for the participatory director system originated from a proposal by Chairman Kwak Jae-sun during a year-end meeting in December with labor unions and employee councils of KG Group's affiliate companies. Following this proposal, KGM engaged in substantive discussions with the labor union to finalize the specifics, including who would attend board meetings, before officially launching the system.

A key feature of this system is the institutionalization of employee representation on the board, the highest decision-making body within the company. This empowers the labor union to voice opinions and contribute to major management issues and decision-making processes. Noh Cheol, the labor union chairman, who attended the third board meeting as a "participatory director" on the 24th, expressed his optimism, stating, "Through board participation, we can resolve the information asymmetry between labor and management by securing management information. It will greatly contribute to fostering trust and expanding communication by allowing the voices of the field to be reflected in management decision-making processes."
